Kevin Chieffo, 42, of East Patchogue, reportedly entered 7-Eleven on Monday, Aug. 12 just after at 6 p.m. at 796 Broadway Ave., and pretended to make a purchase, said police.
When the employee opened the register, Chieffo allegedly reached in to grab cash, according to police.
The female employee attempted to stop the man and the pair struggled before Chieffo was able to break free and flee with cash, said police.
A security guard, who was in the store getting coffee, called the police and followed Chieffo until officers arrived and took him into custody a short distance away, said police. The employee was not injured, according to police.
Chieffo was charged with third-degree robbery.
He was arraigned on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at First District Court in Central Islip.
